The Brief

Formost Fabrications are specialist bespoke metalwork service providers and fabricators, working on anything from staircases, canopies, fire escapes, walkways and more.

They were looking for a marketing company to address both the challenges they faced in their business, and achieve the aspiration they had for it too.

The challenge they were facing is a very common one among small and medium-sized enterprises, and one we are specifically designed to fix: a lack of marketing experience and insufficient time to do it consistently. One business owner focuses on the services and products, being the technician specialist, while the other has the running and operational duties of the business. Marketing is something that often gets squeezed off the ‘to-do list’ in these types of situations.

From a business perspective, there were a few service offerings they wanted to champion and do more of, as it is the work they enjoy the most. They recognised that they needed a marketing company to examine their target audiences and the messages going out to them, and then explore new ways to reach those audiences.

They approached marketing company, Growth by Design, based in Uckfield, due to an introduction from their business coach and after attending one of the business education seminars we co-host with partners. 

What we did

The approach we take as a marketing company is to start with a thorough onboarding session. This is an intense but productive two hour meeting, in order to get our team to learn about the client’s business, understand what is and isn’t known / done currently, and what the objectives are.

In the case of Formost Fabrications, we focused heavily on their target customer avatars. Given that they wanted to focus more on design and in particular staircases, we needed to get under the skin of this audience to be able to identify their motivations, needs, concerns, purchasing behaviour, and more.

From this meeting, we then devised and subsequently implemented the strategy over the last quarter. 

The objective is to generate leads from brand new, cold contacts. The tactics our marketing company have selected to achieve this are: 

  • Social media connection building – focusing on their target audience 
  • Social media content planning and creation – static, graphic and reel content
  • Regular monthly SEO-focused blogs for the website
  • Ad hoc website support to give us a solid foundation for driving leads to
  • Email marketing 

Results & Impact for the client

Within just the first quarter of working together, there have been some great early results for Formost Fabrications.

  • 100 new LinkedIn followers
  • 2 direct and qualified leads from LinkedIn – worth approx £50,000
  • From only being visible for brand terms when we started, to now having 9 keywords on page 1 and a further 9 on pages 2 and 3 – prime for future optimisation
  • Additionally, there are some high-volume generic product keywords on that list
  • The first two monthly emails achieved open rates of 48% and 35% respectively
